My sketchbook

Yes, I have finally gotten my act together and I am going to start illustrating as I have had the epiphany that I have totally underestimated the impact of doodling on design. Look out for new sketches - hopefully they'll gradually get better!

Mini Design Competition - pls vote!!

I've just entered this competition for fun - the brief is a wallpaper background (to have info on the right) for their site and "always open" to be interpreted any way. Go to www.minispace.com/en_us/background/  and look for Pickle Jar.

My online Mag! - The White Elephant

Wow, I learned so much doing this. Unfortunately only learning Fireworks now so had to make this in Flash, phew! I realised a lot about the difference between print and web - web is so much more restricted with regards to performing a function, and they are the kind of rules you can only begin to break once you know them well. It's really a whole new ball game! I made a lot of pages so just put a few up and then the Home page here:)

Peace in motherhood

I drew this in charcoal quite a while ago - I admit I have a bit of a strange obsession with the female nude form, cliche? Yes. But it never gets old to me - especially pregnant women I find so beautiful, the way their curves are shaped to the form of a new life. Wow.

Poster, pamphlet and book design

I designed these for my last brief for the photographer Warren van Rensburg, who was so kind to help me out and who really is a rising star in the world of photography, well, my world anyway. Will post his link now now

Kellie

I did this photo shoot at our little digs in town, just using the natural light from outside, considering the resources I'm pretty chuft!

Matric Art

This is out of my old portfolio so please excuse the dust and scratches! Unfortunately only one of my paintings are here but I will put the rest up soon.

Music Packaging: Pack shots

The concept for this CD and DVD case is that Jules is a "compulsive songwriter". All the type is handwritten and squished towards the bottom as if she is always running out of space because can't stop writing.

The Written Room

Yes, I did this to my room! It forms part of the music packaging of Jules and the Fools, as you will soon see.

Music Packaging: Jules and the Fools: Band Photos

I created a CD and DVD case for my friend Julia Jakobsen's band Jules and the Fools. These are some of the photos featured but I will put up packshots soon so look out for them, and hopefully the music video! What a lot of work but luckily the band was great to work with and always on time.

Type animation

This stop frame animation was a tight squeeze for two weeks but taught me so much! It's based on an ISTD brief, and deals with the concept that not matter how much you control your surroundings, it does not mean that you are in control of your life... a lesson that both Mr. Banks and Harold needed to learn.

Oceanic storm

I will fight wind. I will fight rain. I will fight foam, ice cold water and ear aches from the depths of hell... for I am ....THE PHOTOGRAPHER. Ok honestly, it wasn't that bad - if you leave out the part where I forgot my CF card and ended up borrowing a camera... what a ditz!

Book Cover and Poster (brief for Creative Review)

The basic concept for this brief is a humorous comparison between the priorities of designers versus that of the average person, and human truths owned by designers and myself! The poster is for an "exhibition" of my work, which would (and hopefully will one day) be featured in Creative Review.

The photographed photographer

I really like this picture, I'm not sure why. I think it's the body language of the bird looking up at the woman in a "what the hell" kind of way. I find it funny since the woman it's looking at so unimpressed would usually be me...

Suburban Publishment

This is a publishment I designed for a small area I live in (in Constantia) which was called Barbarossa. It's a small magazine to be published every two months or so which would advertise toys and clothes that children in the area have grown out of or don't use and would like to exchange, as well as anything else that's going! Certain volunteered houses mentioned would be open to the area for the exchanges to happen on a specific date and time. The zine I chose to post would be the first one posted to explain the concept.

Packet design

This is a packet design for and Exclusive Books competition, which I unfortunately didn't win, but I still like it anyway.
